Disable AutoRun Feature

Auto run is a feature of Windows operating systems used to automatically execute programs stored in removable media like CDs/DVDs and usb drives. It was intended to help users with little or no experience to install applications distributed by CDs/DVDs. Autorun feature uses a file called autorun.inf which is a text file and is stored in the root folder of the removable medium. The problem is that many viruses or malwares use this feature to spread and infect your system. So it's always a good idea to disable this feature and here is how you can do it.

Step 1:

Type gpedit.msc on run menu and press OK button if you use windows 2000/XP/2003,
or type gpedit.msc on start search and press Enter if you use windows vista/7

Step 2:

On Windows 2000/XP/2003 go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System and double click on Turn Off Autoplay in the right pane.
On Windows vista/7/2008 go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Autoplay Policies and double click on Turn off Auto play.

Step 3:

Click Enabled radio button and then select All Drives in the Turn off Autoplay. Click Ok button and restart your computer.

That's all..
